Gustavo Flores-Macias, a leading Latin American political economist and Associate Professor of Government at Cornell University visited campus on Wednesday, October 25th to talk about Mexico’s 2018 election and future of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the leading political party in Mexico. The lecture focused on why the PRI has persisted through the years despite democratization, which began in the year 2000. His talk was followed by questions from the students in the audience. Flores-Macias’ visit was arranged by Dr. Omar Sanchez of Texas State’s Department of Political Science and was part of the department’s Discourse in Democracy initiative.
