Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award

Tajudeen Basiru, a Master of Public Administration student, received a 2017 Love of Learning Award from Phi Kappa Phi. A total of 100 awards, each in the amount of $500, were given. Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engages the community of scholars in service to others (https://www.phikappaphi.org/about). The nation’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society, it initiates more than 30,000 members a year on 300 campuses in the United States and the Philippines.

Basiru is an international student and has his medical degree (MD) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. Before coming to Texas State, he worked with non-profit organizations in Nigeria for the care of people with HIV/AIDS. He is currently working toward licensure in the United States to practice medicine.
