The Fall 2020 semester of Texas State’s local chapter of the International City County Management Association (ICMA) was dedicated to building on the organization’s accomplishments and formalizing the ICMA-TXST chapter with the Student Organizations Council at TXST. Toward this end, Breanna Higgins created a 30-second promotional video for the Student Organizations Council website. The September meeting offered practical advice from the chapter’s academic advisor, Dr. Marc A. Wallace, and provided guidelines with reference material for constructing a professional resume. For the October meeting, Breanna Higgins drew from her personal experience to conduct a leadership development exercise with the “true colors” rubric. Lastly, the December meeting was a social gathering to reach out to members about their mental health during the pandemic and to plan for next semester.
The chapter’s leadership consists Breanna Higgins (president), Matthew Gonzalez (vice president), and Daniel Amoo (treasurer). The positions for public relations, undergraduate representative, and fundraiser are currently available.
The International City County Management Association (ICMA) advances professional local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics. ICMA’s members are the professional city, town, and county managers who are appointed by elected officials to oversee the day-to-day operation of our communities. At the subnational level, ICMA has state associates, including the Texas City Management Association (TCMA). TCMA cultivates a grassroots pipeline of professional talent with chapters on college campuses, including the Region 7 chapter at Texas State University.
