Alumni Night 2021

On Wednesday, February 10th, the Department of Political Science hosted its annual Alumni Night which gives current students a chance to interact with recent graduates about transitioning from college to the workforce. The alumni gave presentations about addressed a wide variety of topics including their education at Texas State, their professional careers, the challenges they have faced, internships, and their advice to students who are preparing to transition into the workforce.

This year’s alumni were:

  • Marissa Cooper (2019) who works for the Adult Protective Services at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
  • Eric Ramirez (2014) who teaches 6th-9th grade social studies at the Seguin campus of the Southwest Preparatory School.
  • Kate Moriarty (2019) an aide to Senator John Cornyn in his Austin office.
  • Hector Alcoser (2019) works as a lecturer in Political Science at Texas State University.
  • Ellen Earl (2020) who attends the Texas A&M School of Law.

50 undergraduate students attended the event either in-person and via Zoom. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session, and informal conversations between the students and alumni. Students who attended the event were given department goodie bags, which included department hats, t-shirts, flash drives, and valuable information regarding department resources. Despite the ongoing pandemic, the event was highly successful and included extensive discourse about the field of political science and the potential opportunities that arise from studying it.
