Dr. Meghna Sabharwal on “Creating Inclusive Workplaces”

On Friday, February 12th, Dr. Meghna Sabharwal, head of the University of Texas at Dallas’ Public and Nonprofit Management program delivered a short talk entitled “Creating Inclusive Workplaces”. Her talk was attended by close to 40 faculty and students from across Texas State University. Dr. Sabharwal gave a brief biographical overview of her life, including her college education in India and her arrival in America. During the journey, Dr. Sabharwal discovered her passion for public management and administration and how people, in general, relate to one another. From the beginning, her career has been focused on diversity, emphasizing the importance of including diverse people. Her lecture focused on the personal elements of inclusivity, defining terms like bias and stereotype and explaining how to identify and combat exclusionary thinking. She concluded the talk by expressing that an organization’s most important resource is its people and that by having more inclusive workplaces organizations can help everyone involved reach their potential.
