Inklings discusses Adaptation Urbanism

On March 25th, students and faculty from the department gathered online and in-person for the second Inklings gathering of the spring semester. Dr. Billy Fields spoke about “Adaptation Urbanism and Resilient Communities.” His talk explored accessible, safe, and pleasant spaces and environmentally-friendly transportation development. It drew upon his forthcoming book Adaptation Urbanism and Resilient Communities: Transforming Streets to Address Climate Change which focuses on the new strategies and challenges posed to cities by climate change.

Dr. Fields’ presentation was full of examples, case studies, and photographs taken in the course of his research. Fifteen students and faculty attended the presentation and stayed afterwards to participate in a lively Q&A. session. Rex Wyatt, a graduate student in poli sci said that he enjoyed the event noting that  “Dr. Fields presentation was full of insight on the changing nature of our urban environments, particularly due to increased city densities and our changing climate.
