Dr. Varacalli lectures at Pi Sigma Alpha

Dr. Tom Varacalli of Texas State’s Department of Political Science delivered a lecture, “How to Avoid Being a Partisan Hack,” as the final guest speaker for Pi Sigma Alpha’s 2020-2021 lecture series. Varacalli made a distinction between a good partisan (i.e., a knowledgeable, personable, and persuasive individual) and a partisan hack, who lacks those qualities.

Undergraduate student Tennyson Moreno commented that: “Dr. Varacalli discussed the importance of education, and reasonable thought when discussing policy decisions, and political beliefs – an important lesson for the next generation of citizens and political activists.” Twenty-five students were in attendance.

Founded in 1920, Pi Sigma Alpha is the national honors society for political science. The Texas State Chapter, Rho Eta, was established in 1988 and over the last thirty years has hosted a variety of lectures and community-service projects.
