Dr. Hyun Yun, a member of the department’s faculty, spoke at the October 26th meeting of Supporting Women in Public Science (SWIPS). Dr. Yun focused primarily on her research interests in political media and public opinion and her career. She also discussed her background in South Korea, past research endeavors, and potential opportunities for students seeking to work in her discipline.
As far as higher education is concerned, Dr. Yun recommended following one’s passions. Dr. Yun noted publishing in your personal area of interest contributes to networking or collaborative possibilities with other academics across the country, even those in other fields. She explained that in the course of her career, she has worked with scholars in various fields including communication, psychology, political science, public administration, and even hard STEM scholars.
SWIPS is a nonpartisan women’s organization at Texas State University. They are a professional education and development organization centered around aiding political science majors and other students with exploring all facets of political science so they may discover their professional and academic interests. SWIPS meets every other Tuesday at 6:30PM via Zoom.
