Dr. Franziska Boehme Newell, a member of the department’s International Relations (IR) faculty spoke to the Tuesday, September 26th meeting of Supporting Women in Political Science (SWIPS). Her topic was feminism in IR. 20 students came to learn more about the main ideas in IR feminism and topics such as masculinity in state leaders and feminist foreign policies.
One SWIPS member, Zoie Sanders, said that she “really enjoyed having Dr. Newell in for our SWIPS meeting,” adding that she particularly enjoyed having an open floor discussion with her and fellow members. The vice president of SWIPS, Laura Perales, also commented that she “always enjoys listening to Dr. Newell speak. It’s very refreshing to hear the perspective of a woman when it comes to politics, especially politics on such a large scale.”
SWIPS is a nonpartisan women’s organization at Texas State University.
