Political Science Open House Fall 2024

On Thursday, August 29, over 250 freshmen and transfer students attended the Department of Political Science’s “Open House.” The event introduced attendees to the department and encouraged connections with faculty, staff, and fellow students. Sandwiches, pizza and beverages were provided for the attendees while they learned about available degrees, services offered, and upcoming events. Students could spin the prize wheel to win department swag, such as t-shirts, lanyards, hats, and water bottles.

Political science major Grace Theobald said that attendees “got the chance to meet a lot of great people and chat about what classes [they] were excited to take.” She was “happy to get the chance to socialize and eat before classwork got too heavy.”

Student Developmental Specialist Melissa Rendon, who coordinated the event, said, “It is always an exciting event and my favorite time of year. The students’ energy is contagious, and I always look forward to hearing about where they are coming from and what they want for their futures. It is important that our department makes them feel welcome and supported while they are taking our classes. We want students to know that we are here, and that we care!”
