On Tuesday, October 15, Supporting Women in Political Science (SWIPS) sponsored a watch party of the U.S. Senate debate pitting incumbent U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R) against his challenger, U.S. Representative Colin Allred (D). Thirty students watched the candidates’ debate, which addressed such policy topics as immigration, abortion, and inflation. Attendees enjoyed pizza, popcorn, and refreshments while discussing the candidates’ positions with those around them.
SWIPS’ Vice President Lauren Garcia was pleased that SWIPS was able to “foster an inviting environment for everyone, especially those few who were not majoring in political science. Everyone was patient and attentive while we listened intently to the candidates.”
This debate and all of the other recent political events culminate on November 5, Election Day. The Department of Political Science will host a “2024 Election Night Watch Party” from 6:00-11:00 PM on November 5th at George’s in the LBJ Student Center.
