On Monday, March 3, the Department of Political Science hosted a memorial service for Dr. Walter Wright, celebrating the life and accomplishments of the professor. Family, friends, colleagues, and former students gathered together for the service in the JCK Ballroom.
Speakers included Lynn Crossett, the long-time director of the department’s Master of Legal Studies and a close friend of Dr. Wright’s; Josefina Rendón, a long-time collaborator and friend of Dr. Wright’s; Walker Parent, his son; Patsy Collins, Dr. Wright’s sister; Al Amato, a long-time friend and collaborator of Dr. Wright’s; and department chair, Ken Grasso. The service was followed by a reception where attendees could share their stories and experiences with Dr. Wright.
Dr. Walter Wright taught in the Master of Legal Studies Program at Texas State University for almost 30 years. One of the department’s most respected and popular teachers, his work centered on mediation and conflict resolution both domestically and in Latin America, leading to numerous collaborations between the university and Latin American institutions. A beloved colleague, he was renowned for his friendliness, collegiality, and generosity.
“Walter,” Dr. Crossett noted, ”was truly the foundation of the Legal Studies Program. He was universally respected by his colleagues and students and a close friend to many. His sudden passing was a shock and a deep personal and professional loss.”
