On Tuesday, November 16th, Dr. Richard Krieg delivered a lecture on his area of expertise, critical infrastructure policy, to more than 20 Texas State students, staff, and faculty. Dr. Krieg, a member of the department’s faculty, is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Critical Infrastructure Policy, one of several journals housed in the political science department. Critical infrastructure is defined as infrastructure the failure of which would produce catastrophic outcomes for the U.S. as a nation or for Americans as population, and includes systems such as the agriculture base, the electrical grid, and the interstate highway system. The journal is published by the Policy Studies Organization.
Krieg’s presentation explored the challenges that go into establishing, maintaining, and modernizing critical infrastructure, especially insofar as the many technological challenges are compounded by a dense and fractured political landscape. One attendee praised Krieg’s extensive knowledge of the “lay of the land.”
