On Wednesday, March 5, around 150 students attended a Midterm Check-In event hosted by the Department of Political Science. Ten university support departments attended to provide students with resources before registration for Summer/Fall 2025. These departments were Advising, Library Services, Counseling Services, First Gen Initiatives/Peer Mentoring, Student Learning Assistance Center (SLAC), Success Coaching, Student Involvement and Engagement- Leadership and Service, Writing Center/Pre Law, Transfer Center, and Career Services.
Students had the opportunity to speak to the various representatives about their interests and concerns. For instance, Library Services was able to provide information about research options while the Writing Center was able to assist students interested in the Pre-Law program. Refreshments and departmental swag were readily available, and students could spin the prize wheel to win things like t-shirts, hats, water bottles, and lanyards. Student Development Specialist Melissa Rendon coordinated the wildly successful event.
Those in attendance described the event as “fun, very educational, and engaging.” One student spoke about how “helpful and outgoing” Mrs. Rendon was and how the resources available were beneficial. Another student said, “I always appreciate when y’all hold this as a first-gen college student,” and spoke about the wonderful refreshments available at the event.
