Lisa Cour, a student in the Legal Studies Program, has been named the Department of Political Science’s “Outstanding Graduate Student” for 2020-2021 academic year. Cour was nominated by Dr. Lynn Crossett, the program’s director, based on the overall strength of her academic work and on the merit of an “impressive applied research project” exploring the Equal Rights Amendment. According to Dr. David Smith, Cour adds to the Legal Studies program something “rarely seen in students,” namely, her concern for the whole class’ understanding and desire to facilitate everyone’s learning. Her nomination was also supported by her former coworkers on the Rio Rancho New Mexico school board, who chose her as the board’s president for eight years. Prior to receiving this award, she was awarded the Legal Studies Program’s Janice Collins Memorial Endowed Graduate Scholarship.
This award for dedicated academic and community excellence is given to a single nominated student each year.
