For the last Inklings event of the Spring 2021 semester, Dr. David Smith offered insight into his experiences while serving as the City Attorney of Austin. In his presentation, entitled “The Room Where It Happens: A View From Within,” Dr. Smith explained the structure of Austin’s city government and shared his insight into the process of where and how decisions are made by local officials. He explored the many intricacies involved in managing a major city and explained how decision-making takes place in multiple places and at different times. One student noted, “Dr. Smith’s presentation was incredibly informative. While I knew there were many aspects involved in running a city, I had no idea just how complex it is.”
The presentation was given to both an in-person and virtual audience, with an interactive Q&A following the talk, and was attended by 15 students and faculty members.
