MPA alumnus Chief Kidd wins award

On May 4th, Texas State MPA alumnus W. Nim Kidd (2015) was awarded the West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association’s Distinguished Service Award on behalf of the Texas Department of Emergency Management’s (TDEM) work during his time as Chief. Chief Kidd is responsible for the state’s emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities. Prior to serving with TDEM, Chief Kidd was appointed to the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) and served as City Emergency Manager for the City of San Antonio.

Today, TDEM implements programs to increase public awareness about threats and hazards, coordinates emergency planning, provides an extensive array of specialized training for emergency responders and local officials, and administers disaster recovery and hazard mitigation programs in the State of Texas.

The West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association’s Distinguished Service Award represents the excellent preparedness work Chief Kidd and his team at TDEM have been doing in response to both state and presidential disaster declarations.
