Phi Alpha Delta Hosts Jeff Nelson

On Thursday, March 31st, Phi Alpha Delta (The Texas State Law Fraternity) hosted Jeff Nelson, a  Texas A&M Law School graduate and current Ph.D. candidate at Texas State, to talk about his experience in law school. Mr. Nelson opened the meeting by offering an overview of his educational background, experience in law school, and career before and after attending law school. He outlined the process of applying to law schools and gave advice on how to stand out as an applicant. He also identified key factors to consider when researching different schools, as well as how to qualify for scholarships and what to be cautious of when offered one. For example, Nelson points out that some schools will offer exceptional scholarships with stipulations of keeping a GPA like a 3.2. It may seem reasonable at face value, however, that same school could have an average GPA of below a 3.2. Nelson wrapped up his presentation by describing the realities of being in law school, and he gave alternative career paths available if you decide not to practice law.

Nearly 20 students were in attendance. One attendee noted that it was “fascinating” to hear the “not-so-nice side of being a law student” and “all the little things” to “be wary of.” Another student described the talk as “very informative.”

If you’re interested in joining Phi Alpha Delta, you can watch a recording of the talk, as they upload meeting recordings on Canvas for all dues-paying members. Please reach out to PAD President Ava Stuart at president.padtxst@gmail.com with any questions.
